(Llanhamlach: Red Hen Press, 1983). 16 x 18. A suite of 6 etchings by Shirley Jones, inspired by passages of Anglo Saxon poetry. These are placed, with tissue guards, into a purple paper portfolio, then into a dramatic half chestnut morocco & black cloth tray case by Mary French from a design by Jones. Case spine is lightly faded, but very good. The 6 vibrant aquatints are in fine condition. Item #17967
One of 25 sets of this portfolio, with each print titled, dated, & signed by the artist. Each aquatint is numbered 41/50. The first 25 numbers were trimmed and bound into Jones' book (11 x 13 1/2) with the old English poems. Etchings in the book were not signed. These are suitable for framing. The titles are: Scop Hwilum Sang, beowulf, Judith, Dream of the Rood, Battle of Malden, Sea Farer.
Jones wrote "The sad bleak landscapes of the Romney Marshes evoked for me the spirit of the Old English poetry I once studied."
