The artist's illustrations are viewed through two leaves of clear vellum paper: a die-cut latticework archway; then the archway surround by leafy tendrils painted in silver; then the illustration within its own leafy border. Bound by the artist in soft green silk over boards, large cutout window in upper cover has a painted laser cut framework revealing the title with a hand-painted background that sits beneath the die-cuts, all delicately silvered & gilded. Schwartzott's original art was first scanned and printed on an Epson 2000, then overprinted with a linocut for opacity and pattern, then color & detail were heightened with paint, colored pencil, and graphite. Each illustration is finished with silver and gold leaf. Text was printed on Mohawk vellum in muted shades of purple, green, & gold using an Epson 2000 using archival pigmented inks. Carol Schwartzott has been creating books since the 1960s. Her work has appeared in numerous exhibitions of Artists' Books, and is featured in the National Museum of Women in the Arts.
