Amsterdam, 1897 (1896 printed on spine). 6 x 7 1/2. 194 pages, within delicate art nouveau borders in golden brown, full page sectional titles and opening pages of art nouveau design in seven colors, all by Theo Nieuwenhuis. He also designed the binding of batik cloth, exposed vellum cords. Dyed yellow edges & yellow floral endpapers complement the borders and illustrations. Spine head chipped; paper covering of rear hinge is slightly cracked, all else fine. Item #19027

Theo Nieuwenhuis, was one of the founders of the Nieuwe Kunst, a Netherlands form of Jugenstijl or Art Nouveau, influenced by the Arts & Crafts Movement in England. Nieuwenhuis was a follower of Morris and William Crane, and his fabrics are well represented in the Rijks Museum.
Perk was an important Dutch poet of the late 19th century. This is a posthumous collection of Perk's poems "exploring themes of love, beauty, nature, and the emotional turmoil of separation."
